P5 - Team News
Linlithgow and Stirling County away
Stunning weather and an even better team performance.
In our last match against Musselburgh, we really hoped we had turned a corner in terms of performing at a high level across the whole team. Playing with and against the P6's and even the P'7s, gave us coaches further confidence that we had stepped up a level.
But being Scottish we are well used to seeing the team we love produce a string of false dawns, and follow up a sterling victory with abject defeat.
Imagine our joy today when we opened with a victory against Stirling!
We played 3 matches today against big, physical and well disciplined opposition. Some of the Stirling County passing out of the tackle was at a level we all aspire to, even at senior level.
But unlike many times in the past we never folded and surrendered to defeat. Without doubt this was our best defensive display yet. Every boy who took the field made heroic stops on the pitch. Gone were the halfhearted attempts that left it up to others to save the try.
"If you miss a tackle, they will score" has been a well used phrase over the last couple of weeks and each and every member of the team took that to heart today.
Another very pleasing aspect of today's play was seeing how individuals were naturally slotting in to rugby roles. Probably the greatest attribute of our sport is that it allows for people of a very different physical nature to play side by side.
While we don't encourage positional stereotyping at this level, it was great to see the bigger boys plough into the rucks and those of slighter stature play the scrum half role to such good effect. The faster lads were drawn to the wing and the quick handlers formed the bridge. This demonstrates that there is a natural maturity developing in the team which Jim Telfer would call "a rugby brain".
There was no moaning at the ref today, no asking what the score was,and absolutely no player giving less than 100%. We can't ask for more really.
Days like today remind coaches and parents alike why they stand in the wind, rain, snow and mud, week after week, because the sun will shine and so do our kids.
A massive thank you to all who came today.

Great report Tom - I agree wholeheartedly with everything. Monday mornings are always depressing but it is much easier to face the working week after watching our lads show their skills and commitment as they did today. Who says we take it too seriously.
