Lasswade Easle-ily Beat Forrester
Hello and welcome to yet another 2XV match report, brought to you in conjuction with me. It was a free week, but to keep things ticking over our beloved fixture secretary, Mr. John Durie, organised a 'friendly fixture' against our neighbours down the by-pass - Forresters. A midday fixture had been organised so we could all get drunk and watch the national team get gubbed! Ah the joys of the rugby fellowship. Mr. Adams was unavailable but the stalwart of the club, our hero - Markie B was willing to lug the medical bag and hurl encouragement to the lads. The fixture was to allow both teams to field some of their thirds, fringe players and also allow some of the young, upcoming talent get some 'adult' rugby time.
It was a bright and chilly day saw yours truly win the toss and elect to play into the slight breeze. From the kick off the home team had sustained pressure on the Forrester line and good hands from Gavin Innes let Kyle McKinnon crash over for the first try. The back row of Joe, Bradley and Darren were making themselvez know to the opposition with some telling tackles as well as some crazy ball carries, but more to come on this later. Next up was a scithing break by Neil Durie who released Danny Kerr to score, but to be honest he had a choice of 4 supporting players. Did i mention some amazing ball carries, especially from new lad Darren Eales. It was from one of these rampaging runs that allowed Danny Kerr in for his second of the day.
Half time saw some changes throughout the team with all the bench getting some game time to. Darren Eales's hard work paid off with him going over for a try after a great drive through the middle. Then an amzing piece of footwork from old head Gavin Innes to get the team out of trouble and get a good clearance kick in for good measure. Last time i saw footwork like that was on BBC1 on a Saturday night, i'm sure i saw a little bit salsa, flamenco, charleston and tango in that jig of his!! Had i mentioned before some great ball carries by Darren Eales? Jings, crivens and help ma boab - at one point i'm sure i seen a Forrester lad on his back and he never slowed down! Darren went in for his second try after collecting a 22 drop out and went round the defence to score under the posts. Markie B as promised was rotating the subs like a pig on spit, but this did lead to Forresters scoring a few points - people out of position on the field letting them in. Overall it was a great performance by the squad in full, from the youngies up to the oldies - they all did their job and stuck in.
Man of the Match was awarded to Darren Eales for a few of his ball carries.
FINAL SCORE Lasswade 3/2XV 29 - Forrestsers 3/2XV 12
