Latchford Albion ARLFC

Eccles 1 v 9 Latchford

by Wes Nolan

An emphatic win for Latchford today in a game that they dominated from start to finish recording their second consecutive away victory along the way.

The game was barely underway when Joe scored a fantastic solo try, leaving defenders trailing as he found his way over and Latchford were off and running. They soon doubled their lead when the rampaging Jacob picked up the ball in his own half and scattered numerous Eccles defenders as he powered his way to the tryline to bag his first of the day. Next to get in on the scoring act was captain for the day Jacob (2) seeing a hole and powering through to put Latchford well in control before he doubled his tally for the day with a close range effort to make it 4-0.

Defence was the big key today for Latchford, and whilst the home side had plenty of the ball they couldn’t find a way through with the team working together to keep the hosts at bay although they did pull a try back to make the score 4-1 but that was momentary rest bite as Niall ensured normal service was resumed spotting a gap down the wing and flying down the side for a fine solo effort and at the break for oranges it was 5-1 and Latchford were well in control.

The second half was underway and it was Jacob who got his second try, rumbling over with Eccles defenders not able to control his power and no sooner was he celebrating his second try, he had a hat-trick with another strong effort carrying Eccles defenders on his back and with the touchline at his mercy he somehow managed to get the ball down to make the score 7-1.

From there it was all about defending for Latchford, set after set they stuck together and got the hard work done with Kai’s hard work in defence not going unnoticed from the sidelines. There were many big defensive efforts today for Latchford, Ellie getting stuck in where it mattered, Evan working hard as always, Callum & Kaiden keeping the middle strong, Joe, Jacob & Niall on the right and Ciaran hitting anything that decided it was going to run left.

As the end was approaching Ciaran got in on the act with a quickfire double, firstly skipping through the Eccles defence turning the defence inside & out and for his second try scorching down the touchline to dive in at the corner to bag a brace.

Coaches Keith & Matt were naturally delighted with a great all round team performance and the way the team worked together in defence to restrict Eccles to just the one score.

Man of the match was Ciaran for his tireless defensively display. Coaches awards went to Kai who put in an impressive display and to Jacob (2) who worked extremely hard and scored two great tries. In truth, coaches were spoilt for choice with everyone performing extremely well.

Next up, Ashton at home …
