Colts First Loss Since 2016
Kingsbridge Colts 56 pts
Launceston Colts 17
CABs Colts' final warmup match before the Cup Final at St. Austell involved a long journey to Kingsbridge. With a number of players missing this was a tough test against a very different side from the one that visited Polson at the start of the season. Kingsbridge were, quite frankly, excellent. Their organisation, discipline and execution of well-worked moves was great to watch, and served as a bit of a lesson for the All Blacks. The lineouts and scrums were scrappy for Launceston and only rarely served as a platform to build on.
There were a few highlights for the CABs: the first try was a nicely worked backs move that finished with Charlie Wevill offloading to Luke Couch to score. Charlie Wevill converted this one. Luke Couch then came off injured after an attempted tap tackle. Harry Brewerton scored under the posts in the second half before he also came off with an injury. Chae Jenkins and Callum Dewson came on to add weight to the pack. Chae Jenkins picked up the third CABs try to close the points gap to just 12.
The home side then ran away with the game, running in five tries in the last quarter with some superbly worked moves.
Despite this being their first defeat of 2017, the lack of motivation for a friendly match just before a final, the desire to avoid injury before the final and coming up against a very strong home side all served for this not being a huge surprise. Motivation and desire will be very different for the final - good luck chaps.
