Cornish All Blacks beat Devon All Whites

Launceston Colts 43 pts Newton Abbott Colts 10

With the first team's match cancelled the Colts were once again able to play on the main pitch. They continued their unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable win against a Devon side they rarely meet: the All Whites of Newton Abbott. The game started well with Sam Duke ripping the ball out of a ruck and Ollie Bebbington setting up a nice backs move that took them to the 5m line. The visitors tried to get out of their own half but huge tackles from Aiden Jacob, Kyle Tozer and Lawrence Armstrong kept them penned back. The CABs opened the scoring with a penalty in front of the posts, the first of an almost flawless afternoon's kicking from Will Pharo. This game featured far more intelligent game management with some effective and sensible clearance kicking from Toby May and Kyle Tozer. Alfie Craddock picked up a knock and Josh Rowland came on to replace him with some chess moves in the pack to accommodate him. The first try of the match came from a debatable penalty awarded near the try line, Kyle Tozer took it quickly, sniping under the defence to score near the posts. Will Pharo converted to make it 10 - 0 to the home side. Alfie Craddock came back on soon after this. Luke Couch showed good feet, side-stepping and gaining good yards before a fine penalty kick to touch from Toby May. This led to a solid lineout and drive and a try for Chae Jenkins out wide on the right. Will Pharo's trusty boot extended the lead to 17 - 0. More intelligent kicking and sustained possession led to a Leion Cole try shortly before half time. Will Pharo continued his 100% kicking to make it 24 - 0 going in to the break. All seven subs got good game time in the second half. The visitors showed great spirit and came out strongly, making a lively start and scoring first in the second half after some weak tackling let them in. The CABs responded well, Leion Cole stealing from a lineout, Matt Tharme putting in a good missed pass to Joe Vanstone who made it to the opposition ten metre line where the ball was then recycled out to the right. Aiden Jacob took the ball on and then offloaded nicely for Leion Cole to score from five metres out. Another difficult conversion was successfully put through the posts by the left boot of Will Pharo. The score was now 31 - 5 to the CABs. The visitors then piled on the pressure; Aiden Jacob put in a try saving tackle but had to go off injured, the forwards put in some strong drives, Toby May made a fine clearance kick and the whole team defended resolutely. Eventually the All Whites were rewarded when their forwards were joined by half of the backs to drive over from a lineout. Their conversion hit the post for the second time. A Newton Abbott player was taken off on a stretcher following a nasty collision, we all wish him well for a full and quick recovery. The CABs stretched their lead with a nice backs move, a long pass from Matt Tharme out to Joe Vanstone on the left wing who beat the defenders to score near the posts. Will Pharo converted yet again to make it 38 - 10. A lovely take from a 22 dropout by Ollie Sandercock was followed by a long pass from Chae Jenkins out to Charlie Crichton on the left wing with a clear run to touch to make it 43 - 10. Will Pharo was unfortunate not to be able to maintain his 100% record with the final kick of the game. The team are now starting to gel very well and showing signs of greater understanding and more intelligent game play. Three wins out of three, a great start to the season.
