Launceston brush aside depleted Bude with devastating back play
Alex Maciver-Redwood and Finn Moses put in massive performance to lift the All Blacks to big win over local rivals
Launceston headed down to Bude knowing they only had 11 players, but thankfully the blacks had 3 subs to make it 14 a-side. As soon as the game kicked off, it was clear Josh Elias meant business. He was chopping down Budes biggest ball carriers, putting in some immense tackles throughout the entirety of the game. The All Blacks pack had been drawing Bude in for a while now before the ball was spun out wide, each man drawing the tackle and offloading, Sam Jago cuts inside and scores the first try of the day. 0-5
Bude kick off and the Blacks return the ball with some real intense running from Finn Moses (Coaches Man of the Match) and Ollie Tomkies, who pops the ball to Sam to send him through again. 0-10
Now the Bude forwards shifted up a gear, and left ours in first. They dominated each ruck and swamped them with nearly the entire pack. For a while, Launceston could do nothing to rival them but before long the Blacks started supporting each other and sealing off the rucks. Adam Howgill turns over a ball from which Bude almost certainly would've scored. The ball is kicked away from the Blacks try line, chased and recovered by George Mill and finished by Adam, converted by Tom Lowe. 17-0.
Ollie Tomkies catches the reset kick, and runs through Budes defence, scoring beneath the posts, Tom converts again. 0-24
The game resets again and a penalty kick to Launceston puts them deep in Budes half which should've resulted in another try but instead was turned over by Bude and ran past our line, Budes first try. 7-24
Laziness from the Blacks. Constant mistakes from both teams leave the ball idling on the halfway line, neither team making and real ground. Bude are first to snap out of it and gain the upper hand. Breaking tackles and offloading results in another try from Bude. 12-24, halftime.
Some slightly off the mark rucking from the boys caused coach, Adrian Martin to give it the full Gordon Ramsay. Off the kick, the Bude forwards really inserted themselves into the rucks making it a difficult job for Launceston to get any good phases going. The Launceston forwards fought them off however, and Sam Jago made a striking run, breaking multiple tackles, as per, and scored. 12-29
A long phase of offloads and pops from the Blacks sent Tom Lowe on a barrelling run past Bude and past their tryline, dragging someone else with him. 12-34
Another quick kick return from Sam has him offloading the ball to Josh Brown who carries the ball with one hand and most of Budes backs in the other, and puts it down right between the sticks. Tom converts. 12-41
The Blacks started falling asleep but we're rudely awoken by Bude who had just scored, and converted a try. 19-41
Alex Maciver-Redwood (Captains Man of the Match) bossed his back line and inspired everyone with the monster tackles he was putting in. Bakey, who didn't like being woken up early twice in one day, made a furious turnover and carry, then took the ball to ground before it was spun wide and scored by Ollie Tomkies and converted for the fourth time, by Tom Lowe. Full-time, 19-48
