‘Twaz a wet and muddy day at Saltash, but it didn’t slow our team down one bit. Their big focus on defence carried on from last week and it felt like it cranked up yet another gear. The match was played with a ‘6 tackles means a turnover’ rule and on numerous occasions the tackles were flying in so quickly from the U9’s that they were rewarded with a turnover. This gave an opportunity to score some tries and the parents all saw all our players making some really committed runs at the Saltash defensive line. With the arrival of some new subs-coats, everyone kept warmed up so they were ready to play their part when needed. Training this week might focus back on some attacking skills to make sure we keep moving the ball into space.
Best comments of the day? Well apart from one coach loudly telling his son ‘you’re no good to anyone stood there’ two seconds before said son received a cracking pass and hurtled over the line...... the best comments came from the parents who repeatedly noticed how much the U9’s were playing as one team. Might sound obvious, but they really were. It felt like one complete team out there, looking out for each other. Nothing makes coaches smile more than cracking that one - keep it up lads!
