Match Report: Leicester Westleigh Vs Leamington 1s
3 wins out of 3 for Leamington Mens 1s
An excellent start to the season saw Leamington Spa 1st XI achieve maximum points from the opening two rounds of the season, with a 10-0 away win over Berkswell & Balsall Common followed by a 4-1 win at home vs. the University of Warwick. This weekend saw an away trip in tricky weather conditions to face a solid Leicester Westleigh side, who were looking to get their first points of the campaign. In the absence of Shaun Cuthill, centre back James Keatinge had the captains armband for the fixture.
The first half was a scrappy affair as both teams battled with the weather and pitch conditions, with Leamington enjoying the lion’s share of possession and shots on goal. After building several phases and creating multiple opportunities, Leamington finally broke the deadlock with a well-worked goal finished by forward Joe Cooper. Leicester Westleigh responded well and won several short corners in succession, and were able to convert to head into half time with the scores level at 1-1.
Now playing into a strong wind, ‘man of the match’ Luke Lovejoy took the game to a new level with an exceptional second half display which eventually saw the dominant Leamington side run out 4-1 winners, with second half goals from; Dan Zaremba, Luke Lovejoy and a brilliant individual move and finish by defender Mikey Drury.
Leamington now look to continue their excellent start to the season against 3rd placed Leicester at home (Warwick University water base - 12pm push back - 20.10.18).
