Leamington HC 1s 8 - 1 Coventry and North Warwick 2s
This weekend saw Leamington welcome Coventry and North Warwick to the water base in perfect weather conditions, as Leamington aimed to continue their excellent start to the season, which has them in second position, and just three points off top spot.
Leamington started extremely strongly as they got their passing game going early, creating multiple chances in the opening minutes of the game. The Coventry and North Warwick keeper was forced into some excellent saves, which was a theme throughout as Leamington’s forward line continued their relentless pressure. Ten minutes in the deadlock was broken as Louis Loach finished a well worked goal by deflecting it passed the keeper, with an excellent bit of individual skill. Leamington did not rest of their laurels and quickly added two more goals to put them firmly in control of the match.
Coventry and North Warwick were able to win a couple of short corners, but were limited to creating any real goal scoring chances by a well drilled and hard working Leamington defence. They were however able to get a goal back before half time with a relatively fortuitous finish making the score 3-1 heading into half time.
The second half began much like the first, with Leamington flying out of the blocks. Top goal scorer Joe Cooper bagged his 9th of the season and drag flick specialist and Man of the Match Sam Scannell slingshotted home two short corners, leaving the excellent Coventry and North Warwick keeper with no chance of preventing either goals. A further Leamington goal came quickly after, before captain Shaun Cuthill took centre stage to undoubtedly score Leamington’s most impressive goal of the season with a thunderous slap from the top of D that sailed into the top corner.
Some lovely fast paced passing hockey was played by Leamington, resulting in a well deserved 8-1 victory heading into a difficult game next weekend against Market Harborough.
