Ladies 2s first league match ends in win against Atherstone
Leamington went into this first league match today with high hopes after a streak of wins from pre-season friendlies. They couldn’t become too complacent though as a few key players were missing and the last match against Atherstone, last season, had resulted in a draw.
Atherstone scored first putting pressure on Leamington but the home team came back scoring a goal with a very slick series of passes from right back, across to the left, an assist from Jeanette Lloyd
in the centre and Caroline Allison
on the left post tapped it nicely into the net.
At half time the score was one all leaving both teams wondering who would score the next goal.
While much of the game was scrappy and cramped Leamington had a much stronger second half.
The next home goal started from erica smith
who made an undefeated run down the right and sent in a lovely cross, Jeanette Lloyd
send the ball goalwards but it bounced off the right post, Charlie Quayle
then jumped onto the rebound sending the ball, herself, a defender and goalie into the back of the net.
The final goal from Leamington came from a lovely series of passes, Jess Coleshill
in midfield passing swiftly to Jeanette Lloyd
who heard a clear call from an unmarked Sian Miller
in the D who popped it into the net.
With ten minutes to go Atherstone scored leaving Leamington nervously on their toes. The away team had a series of big hits down the pitch and one strong player who was good at causing trouble.
The final whistle went and Leamington’s first league match of this season ended with a winning score of 3-2.
was unanimously voted Man of the Match for her hard work and persistence in defence.
Leamington look forward to gaining another three points off Olton next week.
