Leamington 2nd v Solihull Bloss
Disappointing tie for home side.
A positive and buoyant warm up from Leamington saw the home side fly out of the blocks at the starting whistle. With great link up play across the pitch, particularly from Izzy Smith
, Lucy Gribben
and Laura McTearnan on the right and it looked as though a goal would be on the cards promptly. However, Leamington reverted to trying to play the ball through the centre which was quickly cut out by the Bloss defence and the early opportunity was missed at the far post. It wouldn’t be until 30 seconds before the half-time whistle that Leamington would go 1-0 up with a fabulous strike from forward Nic Williams
With a focus on simple passing and using the width Leamington set up for the 2nd half. However, Leamington didn’t seem to gel as well in the 2nd half and allowed Bloss back into the game, when they equalised 1-1. Leamington squandered a number of agonising chances but fought hard until the end, with Sarah Gambling
and Charlie Quayle
never giving up and solid defending from Kay Doncom
out swiftly at defensive short corners.
Full time came as Leamington were just beginning to gather momentum again, but unfortunately couldn’t put the winning goal away.
Player of the match votes were spread between the team, but Jess Coleshill
just edged ahead to snatch the votes again.
