Leeds Akkies Masters sent the Political Animals scurrying back to Westminster with their tails between their legs on Saturday.

in a game played on the fantastic new 3G pitch at Leeds Rhinos' training complex the Akkies ran in six tries to the politicians' three.

Ben Wardleworth contributed two characteristic long-range efforts, with Ian Dalby also adding his name to the scoresheet and topping the penalty count. The Akkies also handed debuts to ex-Loughborough University halfback Dave Needham and Wales Students centre Danny Thomas - both of whom will be hoping to play first grade rugby in 2012 - and the duo also crossed the whitewash, with Thomas claiming a long-range brace.

The Animals fielded Akkies president Greg Mulholland MP and former England International winger Ikram Butt. Their tries came from hooker Richard Heaton (2) and prop forward John Prescott.
