Akkies Masters were held to another draw by a grizzled West Leeds Eagles XIII as the club staged a highly successful 'League For All Day' at Old Mods.
Champagne rugby was again on the menu as the Akkies valiant over-35s raced to an early lead when Greg Mulholland went in at the corner to mark his Akkies debut with a well taken try.
The home side wheeled out Dads Army with Debutants Phil Martin (father of current Akkies triumvirate Chris, Cheryl and Helen) teaming up with Bob Nabozny (dad of Akkies 2005 Harry Jepson Grand Finalist Ben) forming a potent halfback pairing.
However, despite flurries of scintillating rugby the final pass eluded the home side and West Leeds sneaked a try to level the scores at half time.
After the break the Akkies continued to set the tempo but were let down by poor ball security and were restricted to one further try by 1976 Highland Games finalist Grant Smith. Proceedings were soured when bearded veteran exchanged cross words with his opposite number and this unsightly kerfuffle seemed to unsettle the home sides rhythm, opening the door for the Eagles to level the score with another close range effort.
The Akkies Masters then backed up with a creditable performance in the club's innaugural touch rugby tournament, which was won by home favourites the Angry Owls who defeated Heworth in a highly charged final. Other combatants included fellow home entry the Amicable Owls, Old Mods RUFC and the Swans.
