About the Sports Injury Treatment Centre

The sports injury treatment centre is led by sports therapy students under the supervision of qualified members
of staff. The centre provides a sports massage clinic and a sports injury teaching clinic. Our aim is to enhance the sporting performance of our students by offering free sports injury management advice and treatment.

TREATMENT

Free sports injury treatment for all members of the Athletic Union
If you’ve twisted your ankle, pulled a muscle, tweaked a tendon, hurt your back or just got a nigglethat is
preventing you from performing your best, then the sports injury teaching clinic is for you.

  • Why should you visit?
Continuing to play sport when you are carrying an injury not only slows down recovery but can result in pain and dysfunction elsewhere. The students at the sports injury teaching clinic will provide assessment and
treatment of your problem which will not only help to enhance your recovery time but more importantly reduce the chance of re-injury.

  • Treatment times
Appointments need to be booked in advance through the Wellness Centre (call 0113 812 9186). To access this service you must be a member of the Athletics Union: you will need to produce your membership card prior to your treatment.
  • Tuesday, 9am - 12pm
  • Thursday, 9am - 12pm
  • Friday, 9am - 12pm

To book: Contact the Wellness Centre on: Tel: 0113 812 9186, E-mail enquiries to: sitc@leedsmet.ac.uk

Where to find us: Fairfax G15, Headingley Campus

PREVENTION (Massage)

Free massage clinic open to all students
If your muscles are achy or stiff from the previous day’s events or you feel you are just generally lacking
flexibility then the massage clinic is for you.

  • Why should you visit?
We all know how sore and stiff your muscles can feel after a hard training session or event. This soreness
is usually due to a build-up of lactate which irritates the pain receptors in your muscles. Receiving a sports
massage following exercise is believed to “flush” away this lactate which in return means your muscles hurt
less and you recover quicker.

  • Treatment times
The massage clinic is available as a drop in service and is free to access to all students, operating on a first
come first serve basis. There is no need to book in advance.
  • Monday, 12.15pm - 3pm
  • Thursday, 12.15pm - 3pm

Where to find us: Fairfax G15, Headingley Campus
