Leek Under 15 girls edge a strong Tamworth team
Nothing between two strong Staffordshire sides
Leek travelled to Tamworth for the 2nd round on their cup pool. We only had a bear 15 players due to injury and unavailability and called on young Maddie Chandler to make her full debut. Both ourselves and Tamworth make up the majority of the Staffordshire squad so this game was always going to be close.
We came out strongly from the blocks with Molly and Morgan making ground at will. Both girls scored excellent trys with Holly converting one. The one thing you can guarantee is that Tamworth will always come back at you and that is exactly what they did. Some poor tackling from Leek and fine forward play from Tamworth saw them score twice with one conversion. 12-12 at HT.
The girls knew they had to step up and work harder than they had in the first half and that is exactly what they did. Holly eventually found some space and scored in the corner. Molly ran 50 yards to score in the corner and Morgan ran one in under the posts with Holly converting. Tamworth scored a good try in the corner but our brilliant defence stopped anymore scores. Eve and Sophia were excellent playing only their 2nd game for us, Tess is improving every game, Lottie led the pack and was magnificent, Grace had a stormer and never missed a tackle. Katie kept the pack moving forward and won many rucks Morgan and Molly made ground at will and won opposition ball, Amy was seamless at scrum half feeding the improving Izzy. Mille made ground every time with Holly looking dangerous as ever. Abby never missed a tackle and made good yards each time with the ball, Maddie ran well with the ball and tried her heart out and Megan was an absolute rock at full back making a fine try saving tackle. Well done to both teams and it was a good game for the large crowd to watch. A fine advert for Staffordshire Under 15 rugby.
