Cracking game of rugby
Buxton 22 v Leek 37
Many thanks to Buxton for arranging this game at the last minute on their incredible new pitch up at Silverlands. It was great fun for all involved to be playing in the afternoon and a great experience for the lads.
We ended up travelling with 14 men - due to injuries and rememberance Sunday. A minutes silence was held impeccably before the kick off by both sets of players.
In a really tough game Leek came out as winners in the end, but the result was in the balance until two yellow cards that were issued following an unsavoury incident involving both sets of players.
Following this Leek scored two very quick tries one of which is possibly one of the best tries this team has scored. The ball was worked well through the middle on our own 22m line and then quick hands from our half backs and a gain line break from Ollie Ryder eventually fed the ball to Oliver Corden Le Petit who out sprinted all players to score under the posts.
The second try came almost immediately and was the culmination from a line break by Tom Rigby who fed the supporting winger Jake Hazelton to score in the corner. At this point the score was 37-12 - Buxton then got two good tries back to finish the game strong.
This was another example of the boys "switching off" when they think the game is won - they must remember to keep working throughout the 70 minutes.
Excellent effort from all and roll on Lichfield next week.
