Club Coach
ECB LIII qualified coach Dave Ferris (38) joined Leek CC on a three year contract in November 2009 and has responsibility for all junior development and supervises all senior training sessions.
Dave previously enjoyed remarkable success over a 10 year period at Porthill Park CC in his role as 'Head Coach & Club Development Manager'. In his last season (2009) with Porthill for example, the U'17 team completed the treble of winning their Kidsgrove League section, the League Cup and the Noel Banks trophy, whilst the U'15 & U'13 teams won their respective South Moorland League sections.
Club Chairman Brian Mellor believes Dave will bring the same long-term success to Leek CC: "He will be good for the club, the wider community of local schools and cricket development in general."
Appointing a head coach has produced immediate results for Leek CC, rejuvenating the senior section and returning the Club to compete at the sharp end of the 'North Staffs & South Cheshire Premier League' and winning 6 pieces of siverware for the youth section over the last two seasons. This level of success has enabled the Club to keep their talented players, nurture the youth section and attract additional youngsters going forward.
Since the end of the 2010 season, Leek CC has provided 158 hrs of coaching to a youth membership of 98 boys & Girls. During the 2011 season, 90% of the total youth membership played competitively for one of our 8 youth teams, accounting for over 120 league & cup fixtures. The youth section won 68% of all matches, finishing runners-up in two leagues, reaching two cup finals & won the U'11 Subsidiary cup for the 2nd successive year.
Furthermore, 7 of our best young players were selected to play District cricket for the Moorlands in 2011 and 10 played County cricket for Staffordshire, of which 3 were chosen for the 'ECB County Elite Player Programme. 6 of our County players received special awards at the recent end of 2011 Staffordshire youth presentation evening.
