"We have played 4 of the top 5 teams in the league in the last 4 matches, and we have shown that we can compete" Bruce

On Sunday, Leek CSOB Ladies F.C had a home fixture against Burton Albion Ladies Development F.C, who were sitting 3rd in the league. The match had to be played on the 3G surface at Staffordshire University due to a waterlogged pitch at Pointon Park, and conditions for the match were not ideal for either team with heavy rain throughout the match.

Burton ended up winning the match 2-0, but Leek held their own for the whole of the 90 minutes, showing in this match and over the last few weeks that they can go toe-to-toe with the teams at the top of the league. On reflection of the match on Sunday and the recent weeks, manager Phil Bruce says "The two goals from Burton came from lapses in concentration in what was otherwise a solid performance all over the pitch. We have been working hard on making sure that we stay focused at all times throughout the match, and that side of things is definitely coming on well, we just need to keep on working at it to stop preventable goals from going in. We have played 4 of the top 5 teams in the league in the last 4 matches, and we have shown that we can compete with these teams, which the ladies should take a lot of confidence from. The development of our individual and team game is coming on strong, and with the high numbers that we are now getting in for our training sessions, we can keep on improving on things furthermore. It's important to set ourselves aspects of our game to improve on and push the ladies out of their comfort zones a bit, and through the ladies working hard and being in this together, performances will keep on improving and the results long-term will come"

Leek CSOB Ladies F.C are at home next Sunday against Newcastle Town Ladies F.C, 2pm kick-off at Pointon Park.
