"I felt that we gave them a really good game and showed that we can now go toe-to-toe with the likes of Stone" - Bruce

On Sunday, Leek CSOB Ladies F.C faced another tough test, this time being at home against Stone Dominoes Ladies F.C, who are second in the league and have been scoring for fun all season long.

After conceding early on, Leek then equalised midway through the first half after some great team play was finished off really well by Kelly Porter. Leek continued to play some good football, but it was Stone who took the lead again just before half-time from a corner, and two further goals in the second half secured Stone the 4-1 win. There were good débuts for Tasha Harper and Laura Stephenson, helping to add numbers and quality to the Leek squad.

After the match, manager Phil Bruce praised his ladies and was happy with the performance, especially during the first half. He says "Losing narrowly to Stone is nothing to be ashamed of as they are a really good team who have proved from their results throughout the season that they deserve to be up there at the top of the league. I know quite a few of their players and the quality that they have got. I felt that we gave them a really good game and showed that we can now go toe-to-toe with the likes of Stone, especially during the first half, which helps to show the progress that the ladies have made. We just need to make sure that we keep on working on aspects of our game, and our second half performances will keep on improving as we keep getting fitter and stronger"

Leek CSOB Ladies F.C are at home again next Sunday, entertaining Whitchurch Ladies F.C at Pointon Park, 2pm kick-off.
