Skipper Sam Pettitt (pic) scores vital goal as Old Boys Route Milton for three vital league points.

Leek CSOB 7 Milton United 2

(Match Sponsored by Ron & Janet Tomkinson - Coxon Green Farm)

There were quite a few changes from last week's win over Silverdale. Phil Bruce replaced Ash Knight in goal, Sam Pettitt, Rob Drummond, Jack Bowyer and top-scorer Jamie Pointon returned to starting line-up in place of Drew Bennett, Tom Bourne, Mitch Shenton & Dale Walters.
There was a hectic start to the game and within the first few minutes, Jamie Pointon fired wide when through on goal. As with many games this season CSOB were getting a plethora of corners but converting them into goals appeared to be a problem. Mark Fox had a half chance with a shot from twenty yards out but his effort was dragged just wide of the target. Against the run of play it was Milton who opened the scoring. In the eleventh minute they were awarded a free kick just outside the CSOB area. Leek Town player Reece Thompson drove the free-kick towards goal and it took a nasty deflection off the boot of Brough to find its way past the helpless Bruce in goal. CSOB were anxious to get on with the game and Will Bown made a great run down the right and it looked for all the world he would equalise but his shot was deflected away for a corner. From the resulting corner the ball was initially cleared but only to the feet of skipper Sam Pettitt and he unleashed a fierce left footed shot which found the bottom right hand corner of the Milton net to bring CSOB level. In the thirty first minute, CSOB were in front following a brilliant flowing passing move. Jamie Pointon helped the ball onto Matty Anderson who took it in his path and curled the ball beautifully beyond the outstretched keeper and into the far corner. Minutes later Pointon himself had the chance to put CSOB further in front when he rounded the keeper but his shot was blocked on the line by the retreating Milton defender. In the thirty seventh minute, Callum Rollins was booked for a late foul on Will Bown. Bown picked himself up and took the kick which he curled brilliantly around the Milton wall and into the corner of the net. CSOB were in the ascendancy and goal wise they were not finished as Brough played a pin point through ball into path of Bown who finished neatly for his second of the game.
Half Time: Leek CSOB 4 Milton United 1
CSOB did not have to wait long for another goal and it was Jamie Pointon who got his name on the score-sheet. Bown picked up a loose ball and played a short pass to Pointon who drove the ball high into the roof of the Milton net. In the fifty fourth minute CSOB made a double change with Drew Bennett and Zac Barker replacing Mark Fox and Nathan Ball. In the sixty first minute CSOB were awarded a penalty when the overlapping Bennett was upended in the area. Bown stepped up for his hat-trick but the Milton keeper guessed the right way and pushed his shot out for a corner. Substitute Zak Barker was imposing himself on the game and in the sixty ninth minute he got his rewards. He latched onto the ball to the right of the Milton area, drove forward and unleashed an unstoppable shot which found the roof of the Milton net. With twenty minutes remaining Manager Dan Hyde made his final change with Keiran Scotland replacing James Brough in midfield who had put in a great shift for the team. In the seventy seventh minute, Barker got his second of the game and CSOB's seventh. The move started on the CSOB left and the ball found its way across to Barker who produced a good finish to beat the keeper at his near post. Milton to their credit were still pushing forward and evidence of their desire was an increasing number of corners they were awarded. CSOB had to finish the game with ten men as defender Hambleton had to leave the field on eighty minutes following a knock to his ankle. In the eighty seventh minute there was confusion in the CSOB defence and Dave Thornley scrambled the ball into the CSOB net after Phil Bruce had made a good initial first save. In the closing stages, Bown had another opportunity for his hat-trick but the keeper stood up well to deny him.
