Leek had the advantage of the slope and a strong wind at their backs and soon made the opposition suffer. A poor goal kick by the Madeley keeper was charged down by George Dawson
who fed the ball to Jack Davis
to lash home a fine shot from just outside the area. A good cross from the left by Liam Griffin
was just too high for Dawson to be able to steer his header wide of the keeper. Dawson then picked up a loose ball in the area but his volley flew over the cross bar as the visitors pressed. Luke Kosciekowski
tried his luck from just outside the area but his effort was just wide of the goal. Leeks endeavours were eventually rewarded when a Marco DaSilva
free kick found the back of the net via the head of Kosciekowski whose well timed run beat the Madeley back line.
The second half started with Davis lifting the ball across the Madeley area for Patrick Farrelly
but the striker shot straight into the arms of the home keeper. Leek were grateful to their keeper Tom Porter-Hargreaves
who was quick off his line to block a Madeley effort. White Star were now beginning to exert some pressure on the visitors back line and eventually reduced the arrears with a shot that evaded the grasp of Porter-Hargreaves. Madeley again went close with a free kick that just skimmed the top of the cross bar as they continued to press. Leek responded with a shot from Macauley Smith
but it lacked the necessary power to trouble the home keeper. The home side eventually drew level when a free kick deceived everyone and found its way into the Leek net. With extra time approaching Town were grateful for two fine saves from Porter-Hargreaves to keep his side in the tie.
In the first period of extra time Madeley chose the advantage of the slope and soon made it pay earning a penalty which was despatched with confidence to give them the lead. White star continued to press and soon put the game out of the reach of Leek with a fine strike from outside the area into the roof of the net.
Farrelly found himself in space early in the second period of extra time but delayed his shot as Leek tried to get back into the contest. A good run down the right flank by Sam Bostock
resulted in his shot being blocked at the foot of the post as Madeley ran out comfortable winners.
Leek were disappointed not to have progressed in the competition after a sound first half performance.
