Leek Town U11's kicked off the 2012-13 season with a solid 5-1 win over Bradwell Whites in their first ever 9v9 competitive game. Leeks youngsters started slowly, struggling to adjust to the new formation and pitch size. Both sides competed for possession in the midfield areas with few openings being created. However, Leek eventually found their rhythm and were soon creating chances for strikers Llewy hammersley and Lewis Roberts
who were unable to convert. The introduction of jake Goldstraw
gave Leek an extra gear and then soon took the lead when a Charlie Hinton through ball found Hammersley in space where he was able to steer his shot low into the bottom corner for one nil. Leek then doubled their lead when Goldstraw was able to shoot on the turn following another good move involving Midfielder Jake Beetham
. Ryan and Wain and Hammersley continued to make chances with nice inter play down the right wing and eventually their persistence paid off when Hamersley scored his second and Leeks 3rd on the stroke of half time.
Man of the match, captain Rob Warman
alongside Beetham continued to dominate the central midfield battle throughout the game with tireless running both on and off the ball. Don Potts slotted into defence alongside Harry Cotteril
who consistently cut of any Bradwell attacks with some tough tackling. Leek took the foot of the peddle in the second half but still created chances that really they should have converted. Hinton went close with a long range effort before Roberts powered through on goal to make it 4-0. Keeper Mat Morey
did well to hang onto a deflected shot before Bradwell eventually scored a deserved consolation goal whilst having a good spell in the game. The goal seemed to re ignite Leek who pushed on through the final parts of the game. Roberts grabbed his second in the dying minutes, slotted home from close range after good work from Warman and Hammersley giving leek a comfortable and deserved 5-1 victory
