Both sides started brightly without creating much in the way of genuine scoring opportunities. Leek made a quick break from defence with some neat passing but forward Jack Davis was caught narrowly off side with a good opportunity beckoning. Madeley hit back with a fine cross from the left which was volleyed just wide by Sam Ord from the edge of the six yard box. Both sides were playing some good football but chances were few and far between. With half an hour gone Madeley made the breakthrough. A long throw into the White Star area was cleared but an error in the Leek midfield allowed Ord to gain possession and race forward to round Leek keeper Tom Porter-Hargreaves and find the net. A near post header by Davis was blocked as were two strikes from George Dawson as Leek looked to level. Good work down the Leek left by Macauley Smith gave him the opportunity to cross but the Madeley keeper did well to cut out the danger as Leek stepped up the pressure. Kieran Scotland tried his luck from outside the area but the visiting keeper collected comfortably. A free kick was headed just wide of the mark by Patrick Farrelly and Dawson forced the keeper to save at his post after Scotland fed him the ball. The Madeley keeper was being kept busy as he was forced to save further efforts from Scotland and Smith.
The second half commenced with Porter-Hargreaves being forced into a brave save to keep his side in the contest. Davis went close for Leek with an effort that flashed just wide of the mark. Leek found themselves further in arrears when a cross from the left fell to Dan Brown who lashed the ball into the corner of the net to double his sides lead. Chris Brown laid a good ball off for Scotland to strike but his effort was just high of the target. Ashley Beff forced the Madeley keeper to save as Town searched for a way back into the game. The game was eventually put out of Leek’s reach when Sam Bettley-Smith slipped a cross from the right into the net. Leek eventually got onto the score sheet when a neat turn and strike in the White Star area from Sam Bostock found the corner of the net. A fine run by Scotland ended with a shot over the Madeley cross bar as the visitors eventually ran out the winners.
