Leek Town U15 Girls had a fantastic start away at Stoke Town Ladies when Alice Naden
hit the post in the opening exchanges and Lucy Kelsall
making her debut slotting the rebound into the net. Leek were missing a few players today but still turned up with a squad of 13. Emma Smith
was moved from her normal right back position to centre half and Rosie Atkinson
played at right back with Isabel Wretham
and Molly Shaw playing in their normal positions making up the back four all of which had outstanding performances.
Stoke came back into the game midway through the first half when they equalised after a goalmouth scramble. Kirsty Ryder
who was playing really well in midfield picked up an injury and had to go off. Eleanor Degg came on as replacement in midfield alongside Caroline Evendon, Lucy Kelsall
, Elise Skelding
and the four of them began to get the better of the Stoke Midfield. Kayleigh Barnes
worked tirelessly up front keeping the stoke defence on their toes. Alice Naden
then struck for Leek making it 2-1.
The Stoke team then came back into the game with several attacks and Leek goalkeeper Hannah Austin
made a couple of good saves.
Half Time Stoke 1-2 Leek
was able to come back on for the second half and the game was end to end with Leek having to defend several Stoke attacks. Emma Smith
made several good defensive headed clearances and Molly Shaw putting in a great performance to thwart the excellent Stoke no.9.
Fran Stonier came on in the second half for her debut and put in a solid performance. With 10 minutes to go Isabel Wretham
made a clearance which resulted in Alice Naden
being put through and scoring the all important third goal (Alice Naden
now scored five goals in last two games). Leek then defended well for the last few minutes with Hannah Austin
making an excellent save to keep Stoke out.
