ALTY PREVIEW: ROBINS WARNED TO BE ON THEIR GUARD

ALTY PREVIEW: ROBINS WARNED TO BE ON THEIR GUARD image

Altrincham assistant boss Neil Tolson has urged his players to be on their guard from a Leek side 'guaranteed' to play above themselves in Saturday's FA Cup third qualifying round reports The Sale Messenger.

Alty matched Northern League Shildon stride for stride in the previous round on Tyneside and will need more of the same to clear another tricky hurdle, according to Tolson.

"It was mentioned straight after the game at Bishop's Stortford on Saturday and again in training on Tuesday that we will have to be ready for what lies in wait."

"One thing you can guarantee is that Leek will play 15 to 20 per cent above what you might normally expect from them."

"With a big crowd packing the ground, opponents from just up the road and a place in the next round at stake, you can be sure of that. we have to raise our game. Whatever they thrown at us, we have to make sure we deal with it."

"Every single training session I keep emphasising the importance of workrate. You get nothing without that. If we don't match them in that regard, we will be in for a difficult afternoon."

"One other guarantee is that we will get a good following. I would say about 40 per cent of the crowd at Bishop's Stortford were Alty fans who had travelled for three and a half hours to support the team. It is about 40 minute to Leek, so we could have 400 to 500 there.

"In my 18 month sat Moss Lane, they have given Lee (Sinnott), myself and the team magnificent support and it is really hugely appreciated."

Alty go into the tie boosted by the news that Damian Reeves has been named Blue Square Bet North Player of the Month after 12 goals in six games in September.

"He is a great lad and I do believe he is getting even better," added Tolson.

"You have to be in the right place to finish chances off, and if someone has put one on a plate for him he is the first to say 'cheers' in the dressing room afterwards. He is that sort of lad."
