Blues moved back into the top five and the play-off places with a comprehensive 6-1 demolition of lowly Market Drayton Town.

It was the second successive 6-1 victory on a Wednesday night after town put Sutton Coldfield Town to the sword a fortnight earlier.

Lee Casswell was without midfield duo Sam Hall (injury) and Niall Maguire (suspension) but Anthony Danylyk was back in the side after injury and Sean Kinsella was handed his first league start in their places.

After a quiet opening Liam Shotton almost opened the scoring when his chip from the right hand side of the area rebounded off the inside off the post with Danny Read stranded in the Drayton goal.

A minute later Tim Grice burst through the middle, but he was thwarted by a good save from the onrushing Read. Matt Bell had a shot deflected just wide in the 23rd minute, but it took Blues until the 38th minute to make the breakthrough.

A inswinging corner from Bell found the head of Shotton (pictured) who had the simple task of nodding home from a couple of yards out for his 16th goal of the season.

Drayton countered and equalised on the stroke of half-time when Kevin Street poked home the loose ball from close range after Ross Etheridge had made a save.

Leek moved up several gears in the second half and ripped apart the visitors at will. Dan Shelley had gone close a couple of times before he played in Tim Grice in the 58th minute and he cooly slotted the ball past the keeper.

Five minutes later it was 3-1 when Grice glanced in a corner from six yards out and the fourth arrived on 70 minutes when Shelley played in Kinsella who finished with a lovely shot into the top corner from just inside the box.

That was Kinsella’s first goal for the club, his second took just five minutes to arrive as he clinically finished low into the corner of the net from 22 yards past the helpless Read.

With Drayton’s defence all at sea, Danylyk chased down a lost cause to the by-line and pulled the ball back for Shelley to slam in a well-deserved goal in the 77th minute to make it 6-1.

There was one final bonus for Blues fans with the appearance of Jordan Johnson who looked lively after coming on as a late substitute in the final ten minutes after his injury lay-off.
