Blues meet Carlton Town at Harrison Park on Saturday looking to record only their second win of 2018.

Neil Baker's side have taken just 6 points from the last 24 available since the start of the year and with the Carlton clash being the 31st league game of the season, matches are fast running out to put together a run for the play-offs.

Blues have drawn their last three league games whilst Carlton are unbeaten in their last three, all played away from home.

The Millers are currently in 18th place in the table but having played eight games fewer than Leek it is something of a false position.

Looking ahead to the game, Baker told the Sentinel it’s an important fixture and one they need to win if they are to have any hopes of making the end-of-season play-offs.

“There is pressure on us to win the game, so the players really need to step up to the plate and prove to me they are up for the fight.

“We are still not out of the play-off picture, despite dropping points over the past couple of weeks, but it’s about applying ourselves, putting in the work and getting the three points on Saturday,” said the manager.

Leek were 1-0 winners at Carlton back in September, thanks to a goal from Jordan Johnson in the 90th minute.

Baker says irrespective of their position, they will have to show them the respect they deserve.

“Carlton at home we should be winning, but they are not that bad a side. They may be low down in the table, but they have played eight games less than we have and despite being fifth-bottom, have a plus three goal difference, so I think their position is a false one, but we are at home and we need to win, so yes, the pressure is on.”

Blues will be without both Sam Hall and Niall Maguire who start bans following their red cards against Alvechurch and Nathan Whitehead and Dan Shelley are on standby to replace them.

Baker commented, “Dan and Nathan will come into my thoughts, because we will be a little low on numbers. Liam Davies goes back to Chester after Saturday’s game, and then we have a Staffs Senior Cup game against Stoke City on Tuesday night, so I am going to have to use all of my squad over the next couple of games.”
