BLOODS TEST SHOULD BE A CRACKER

Blues take on Droylsden in their first home league game on Tuesday evening, kick-off 7.45pm at Harrison Park.

Leek got off to a flyer on Saturday with a 4-0 victory over Skelmersdale United, but the Bloods should provide a sterner test based on their 4-2 opening day victory over fancied Runcorn Linnets.

Droylsden were in the Conference North as recently as five years ago but they have had their off-field issues, however long-serving Chairman and Manager Dave Pace appears to have the club moving in the right direction again and they have made some impressive signings during pre-season.

Amongst these are twins Kieran and Kelvin Lugsden who have enjoyed successful spells at Glossop North End and Shaw Lane. Ryan Jennings has also been captured from National North side Alfreton Town.

Midfielder Mike Brewster has been recruited from Premier Division Marine and goalkeeper Chris Thompson joins from Clitheroe where he was voted Player of the Season.

Another player to watch out for is big target man Sefton Gonzales who scored twice for Droylsden on Saturday against Runcorn.

Manager Neil Baker has no fresh injury concerns although midfielder Sam Hall remains sidelined. Forward Tyler Blake has however left the club after failing to gain a shirt in the 16-man squad against Skelmersdale.

The two sides met regularly in the Northern Premier League in the nineties but have not crossed paths since 2000/01 when Blues were relegated after finishing a single point behind the Bloods.

Please come down to Harrison Park for what should be a cracking game between two sides both expected to be at the business end of the table this season.

And if all that wasn't enough we have a top-notch Post-Britpop playlist for pre-match and half-time in keeping with our Snow Patrol themed match poster and oatcakes on the menu in the food hut - what's not to love?!
