Two headed goals were enough to give Leek victory in their first away game of the season at Market Drayton Town.

Peter Ward and Matt Beeby opted for an unchanged line-up with Tim Grice passing a late fitness test and Jordan Johnson being named on the bench after his move from Airbus UK was confirmed.

It was the home side who came out of the blocks flying and Ben Chapman had to save with his feet inside the first 30 seconds.

Two minutes later he was in action again as he tipped a fierce drive onto the roof of the net.

Chapman was called into action again on 24 minutes but by now Blues were getting a foothold in the game and came close from a couple of corners before taking the lead in the 36th minute.

The ball was worked out wide on the right to Sam Hall, whose cross was met by a glancing header from Dan Shelley and the ball was sent beyond the diving Danny Read and into the net.

Shelley almost added a second after the break when his curling effort from the edge of the box was clawed away from the top corner by Read.

Blues went further ahead after 64 minutes when a short corner was given back to Matt Bell, who provided a pin-point cross for Tim Grice to meet with a bullet header at the near post.

Leek soaked up the home pressure and looked to be comfortably seeing out the game when Paul McMullen's low shot found the bottom corner in the 88th minute.

This set up a nervy five minutes of added time, during which Blues should have added a third goal but Andy Kinsey was denied twice in the same attack with a shot that hit the post and his effort from the rebound was cleared off the line.
