BLUES RETURN POINTLESS FROM STEELTOWN

The long trip to Northamptonshire proved fruitless as Blues went down 2-1 to Corby Town at Steel Park.

Neil Baker stuck with the same starting eleven that won at Peterborough Sports and named new loan signing Tom Crawford from Chester FC amongst the substitutes.

The home side started brightly but Blues went close when Dan Trickett-Smith's low shot skidded just wide in the 10th minute.

Corby took the lead on 17 minutes when Ben Chapman parried an awkward long range effort from Jordan Crawford and Cameron Healey headed in the rebound.

Blues were soon level when Rob Stevenson made inroads into the box and as he played the ball across the goal he was crudely upended by a late tackle.

After a lengthy delay for Stevenson to be treated Tim Grice slammed home the penalty to make it 1-1.

Chances were traded in the run-up to half-time, first Grice saw his low shot turned around the post by a good save from Steelmen keeper Sam Wilson.

In the 40th minute Chapman was at full stretch to tip over a header from Connor Kennedy.

Right on half-time Grice found himself clean through on goal, his dinked the bouncing ball first time over Wilson, but it dropped agonisingly just wide of the post.

The Steelmen upped the pressure considerably in the second half and took the lead again on the hour mark where some slack defending allowed Sam Mulready time and space to swivel and prod home the loose ball.

On 67 minutes Stevenson broke down the left and crossed for Grice but on the half-volley he sliced his effort over the bar.

As the game wore on, it looked more likely that Corby would extend their lead rather than the Blues finding an equaliser.

On 82 minutes Dino Tuskar curled a shot just over for the Steelmen, then Chapman made a fine save to parry an effort from Steve Leslie behind for a corner.

Moments later, Chapman was at his best to tip a dipping 30 yard effort from Tuskar over the crossbar.

Leek had a half chance in added time when the ball was pinging around the Corby box but the final effort from Niall Green was charged down.
