Blues went through to the next round of the FA Cup following their hard fought victory over lower league Stourport Swifts at Harrison Park on Saturday

Leek took an early lead but were frustrated by the visitors who levelled the scores with 13 minutes remaining.

However, Leek struck back almost immediately to win the tie and £3,000 in prize money with a chance of picking up a further £4,500 in the next round away to either Tividale or Stafford Rangers.

Commenting after the game, Blues’ boss Lee Casswell said, “That was a tough game but the most important thing is that we got through.

“All credit to the Swifts for their stubborn resistance - they made it difficult for us and were still in it at the break.

“We enjoyed a good first half but were a little nervous in the second half as were the crowd and I was disappointed to concede the goal although Ben (Chapman) unsighted as the lad struck the ball.

“However, our spirit shone through and within a minute we’re back in front thanks to Kinsey’s second assist of the game and a cool finish by Tim (Grice).

“Now we are hoping for a good draw in the next round and a tie we have a chance in”, he added.

Casswell was without team skipper Sam Hall and defender Ryan Dicker for the home FA Cup tie against Stourport Swifts at Harrison Park on Saturday.

Hall was in Germany on business whilst Dicker was on duty in the south of the country with the Crewe Alexandra Academy – both players will return to the squad for the top of the table clash against Loughborough Dynamo at Harrison Park on Saturday.

Also rejoining the squad for the Loughborough game will be winger Tom Lowe who has sat out the last three games after picking up a three-match ban whilst playing for the reserves.

Ankle injury victim Sean Kinsella made a surprise appearance on the bench in an emergency role after making great strides in training last week. However, the player will be nursed back to full fitness over the next two weeks.

Blues’ physio’s Kevin Brown and Ken Ashford will this week monitor defender Dan Smith’s recovery from a knee injury picked up during the opening half of the FA Cup game on Saturday

Meanwhile the Blues’ boss was pleased that defender Karl Espley made himself available for Saturday’s game although he had been up all night as his partner gave birth to a daughter.
