Blues boss Lee Casswell has unveiled his first signing of the summer with the capture of goalkeeper Chris Martin from champions Mickleover Sports.

The 25 year old goalkeeper replaces Ben Chapman who has moved on to Kisdgrove Athletic and the signing is something of a coup as Martin was named in the Evo-Stik League Division One South team of the year for 2014/15.

Marin began his career at Port Vale and established himself as Vale’s number one making 74 first team appearances before leaving to join Ilkeston in 2012. He has played for Mickleover for the last two seasons.

Casswell told the Sentinel he's delighted to be reporting some positive news to come out of Harrison Park. He also he hopes to be in a position to announce more signings next week.

"It's a bit of good news for a change," said Casswell who rates Martin as the best keeper in the league last season.

"Chris was a little unfortunate to pick up an ankle injury and was missing for a few weeks. Mickleover signed another keeper and as they were doing so well, Chris lost his place, but that was no reflection on his ability.

"I rated him as the best in the league last season and included him in my league team of the year.

Casswell says it's not the first time he has tried to sign the player.

"I've spoken to Chris before, but for one reason or another, the move didn't happen, but I'm delighted to have him here at Harrison Park now."
