Blues maintained their 100% start to the season when they comfortably saw off fancied Goole at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds on Saturday.

Following the victory, Leek retained top spot in the First Division South table on goal difference with Loughborough, Tividale and Stafford Rangers filling second to fourth places.

Leek boss Lee Casswell was taking charge for the first time this season after returning from holiday and went into the game with the same side that won the opening two games although Paul Donnelly was unavailable due to work commitments.

After the game Casswell told said, “It’s been a great start to the season but we felt that Market Drayton and Rainworth would be bigger tests than they were.

“But we knew that Goole would provide stiffer opposition so we deserved the victory although it should have been by a much greater margin.

“We went in at the break two goals to the good and we had to stand up to them in the second half as expected.

“But the back five were superb showing that they could deal with whatever a decent Goole side could throw at them.

“We got our tactics spot on today and whilst Dan Shelley edged it for me, they couldn’t handle Liam Shotton on the day whilst Matt Bell turned in one of his best performances in a midfield role”.
