In truth the result did not flatter the home side with Blues second best for the majority of the game.
Neil Baker's first competitive line-up had Joe Kearns, Marc Grocott and Kyle Blake all making their debuts for the club.
Alvechurch started well and Leek struggled to gain much possession and it was no great surprise when they take the lead in the 13th minute when a corner was flicked on to Luke Yates to prod the ball home.
Church could have added to their tally but put a number of chances either wide or over.
Blues created little with a header over the bar from Jordan Johnson just before the break the only effort of note in the first half.
After the break Blues looked a little better but went further behind in the 56th minute when Tom Turton played in Josh March down the left and produced a perfect dinked finish over Ben Chapman.
Baker brought in Chris Budrys and Niall Maguire for Jordan Johnson and Rob Stevenson and Leek and began to look a little more threatening up front.
However, it was home side who scored again in the 69th minute when Tom Turton converted a penalty after James Curley brought down Jack Cresswell.
Blues got a lifeline when Dan Shelley curled in a free-kick which was headed home by Tim Grice in the 74th minute.
Shelley came close to getting Leek right back into the game with a free-kick that was well-saved by Church keeper Jasmin Keranovic.
Any hopes of comeback were dashed five minutes from time when skipper Darren Chadwick was shown a harsh-looking straight red card for a foul to compound a miserable opening day of the season.
