Dan Cope has signed for Blues league rivals and near neighbours Newcastle Town.

The striker returned to the club earlier in the season from Stafford Rangers, but has struggled to hold down a regular place in the starting eleven due to the goalscoring form of fellow forwards Tim Grice and Lee Cropper.

Cope scored two goals and made thirteen starts and five sub appearances since rejoining the Blues and should find more regular football in a goal-shy Newcastle Town side who have managed just one goal in their last five matches.

His overall Blues record stands at 41 goals from 132 appearances.

Lee Casswell commented "Dan's a great lad, but he has fallen down the pecking order behind Tim Grice and Lee Cropper who are both scoring goals."

Grice is the current leading scorer with 13, while Cropper has netted four times for Leek since joining from Witton Albion where he scored five times in 10 appearances.

Casswell says he has no immediate plans to replace Cope by signing another striker.

"Again I have options, because Dan Shelley can play up top, as can James Curley and Chris Baker. I'm more interested in bringing a pacy wide man into the club. That's my priority."
