DABBERS DEFEATED IN FINAL WARM-UP GAME

DABBERS DEFEATED IN FINAL WARM-UP GAME

Steve Reynolds12 Aug 2018 - 19:30

Blues wound up their pre-season programme with a 1-0 victory over Premier Division Nantwich Town.

Manager Neil Baker reverted in the main to the tried and tested as he named a familiar looking starting eleven with just Charlie Walford as the only newcomer in the starting eleven.

It took Blues just thirteen minutes to score what turned out to be the only goal when Rob Stevenson drew the keeper and then squared across goal to give Tim Grice an easy finish from close range.

It was almost 2-0 when Niall Maguire was unlucky to see his header across goal rebound off the far post.

Nantwich did little to trouble Danny Roberts throughout the game, the closest they came was an overhead kick that dropped just wide of the target.

The second half became rather disjointed as both sides made a host of substitutions. Leek almost nicked another goal when Jordan Johnson broke through, but he poked the ball wide of the keeper and just the wrong side of the post.

The Dabbers had most of the possession as the game wore on, but Blues defended resolutely with Mat Bailey and Scott Lycett in particular ensuring Roberts quiet afternoon continued as Leek held on for a deserved victory.

Team: Roberts, Green, Kearns, Grocott, Lycett, Bailey, Maguire, Walford, Grice, Trickett-Smith, Stevenson Subs: Johnson, Thomas, Reid, T Blake, Bavanganga
