DANYLYK ALREADY PLANNING FOR NEW SEASON

Blues hope to have leading scorer Tim Grice and Dan Shelley available for the trip to Spalding United.

Grice was withdrawn from Tuesday night's 0-0 draw at Goole after feeling ill, while Shelley picked up a knee injury.

Manager Anthony Danylyk expects both to be available, but will assess the players ahead of the club's final game of the season.

Leek can't finish any higher than eighth, but could be overtaken by Rugby Town if they can beat promotion candidates Shaw Lane Aquaforce and Leek fail to get anything at Spalding.

However, Danylyk says he will be looking for a positive performance from his players as he starts preparations for next season.

Danylyk has only been in charge for three weeks, having stepped up from his post as assistant when manager Lee Casswell stood down, but he's looking forward to the challenge.

"It's going to be a busy summer, as it is for every manager who is looking to improve their squad," Danylyk told the Sentinel.

He does not anticipate wholesale changes for next season, but has one or two irons in the fire.

One of his priorities is to get someone in who can take some of the burden off striker Tim Grice, who took his tally for the season to 29 on Saturday with his two goals against Tividale.

"Gricey has been doing a great job up front, but he's not had a great deal of support, so I will be looking to strengthen in that department.

"I don't think there will be a lot of changes, certainly not as many as we had at the start of the current season when Lee had to almost start from scratch," said Danylyk.

"Once we get Saturday out of the way, then I will get the ball rolling and start making a few calls because I have an idea of the type of players I want to bring in.

"Ideally I can have a fairly settled squad by the time we start pre-season, so that everyone gets the chance to gel before we get down to the business of next season, but I will be putting my own stamp on things."

Danylyk says it was disappointing to miss out on the play-offs this season, but believes the club still had a good season.

"Considering all the changes we made at the start of the season and part-way through when a number of players joined us from Witton Albion, I think we did okay. But we start again after Saturday and hopefully this time next year we can be back in the play-off mix.
