DANYLYK: WE NEED TO START PUTTING POINTS ON THE BOARD

Player-manager Ant Danylyk is hoping he can play some part in the game at Carlton Town on Saturday reports The Sentinel.

The midfielder has been struggling with a calf strain picked up in training last week and although progress has been slow, he is hopeful he will be fit enough to include himself in the travelling squad.

“The injury has been getting better during the week, but I won't risk it if I am not 100 per cent," said Danylyk who is looking to get Blues back to winning ways.

Two defeats and then a draw last weekend at bottom club Northwich Vics has seen Leek drop out of the play-off places, so Danylyk is keen to start picking up some points again.

“It's important we start putting some more points on the board. At this stage of the season the team that can put a little run together is giving themselves a good chance of figuring in the end-of-season play-offs, and we need to make sure we are one of the teams," said the manager.

Leek were guilty of too many missed chances at Northwich, including a penalty, and Danylyk has called on his players to show a little composure.

“We were rushing our chances when they came along. It wasn't just the strikers, so that's something we need to work on."

Leading scorer Tim Grice was the man to miss from the spot at Northwich, but Danylyk backs the striker to start firing again.

“Gricey just needs a goal to get him going again and I am sure that will happen sooner rather than later.

“He's just having a lean patch at the moment, so we need one to go in for him however it comes along."

Tom France has recovered from a slight knock picked up in the draw with Northwich last weekend, but Johnny Higham, signed just before the match from Hanley Town will be missing after picking up a knee injury in a non-related football incident.

“It's unfortunate he's now available because he played quite well when he came on last weekend. But he's still a young lad and there is plenty of time for him to shine."

A tough game is in prospect with the Millers enjoying something of a revival in the last couple of games.

A fortnight ago Carlton pulled off a 2-0 victory at in-from Kidsgrove Athletic and followed that up with an impressive 4-3 home win over promotion-chasing Spalding United.
