Blues slipped to their third defeat in four games when league leaders Grantham Town defeated them 3-1 at Harrison Park.

The Gingerbreads underlined their title credentials with a dominant second half display to wrap up a comfortable victory.

Leek started well and almost took the lead inside 90 seconds. Tim Grice burst into the box but his shot was blocked by Rob Murray in the visitors goal and Adam Roberts was just unable to tuck away the rebound.

Grantham hit back and took the lead in fortunate circumstances on 10 minutes when a left wing cross cannoned off Jack Lane and past Ben Chapman in the Leek goal.

The visitors spurned a couple of chances to move further ahead before Grice was again denied by a fine save by Murray on 23 minutes.

However, Grice (pictured) got on the score sheet after 38 minutes when a ball over the top found him and Matt Haddrell completely on their own in the visitors half.

Grice decided not to square the ball to Haddrell and instead finished with a delightful ‘Messi’ style dink over the keeper, with Grantham complaining bitterly for an offside flag.

Adam Roberts had an effort cleared off the line early in the second half before The Gingerbreads took control with two quick goals.

On 53 minutes Lee Potts volleyed in a right wing cross before Rhys Lewis bundled the ball home from close range on the hour mark.

Leek struggled to make any inroads into the vistors defence for the remainder of the half as they closed out the game with a superb display of controlled football.

Grantham are surely destined for the Premier Division, whilst Blues have to find their form fast if they are to harbour any hopes of a play-off place.
