A last-gasp goal from Jordan Johnson handed Blues three valuable points with a 1-0 win at Carlton Town.

Boss Neil Baker gave Dan Trickett-Smith his first start at the expense of Rob Stevenson whilst Joe Kearns was preferred at left back to Alex Morris.

The home side started well and created the first chance on 12 minutes when Ben Chapman had to be at his best to reach a curling effort from the left.

Two minutes later Mike Calveley had Blues first effort on target with a header from a corner which was comfortably saved.

The Millers had a good spell of pressure resulting in a goalmouth melee in the 22nd minute but Leek defended well getting bodies in the way of any efforts.

Blues best moment of the half came in the 26th minute when Tim Grice met a corner and Carlton keeper Jack Steggles made a brilliant point-blank save to turn the ball over the bar.

Any other goalmouth incident was thin on the ground and at half-time it was goalless in a fairly poor first half.

There was no improvement after the break as the sides largely cancelled each other out. Such was the lack of chances it appeared certain that one goal would win the match but neither side were able to create anything of note.

With 90 minutes on the clock, Carlton had a great chance to win it with substitute Aaron Hooton clear on goal. He unleashed a low shot but Chapman got down magnificently to push the effort away.

Two minutes later, Jordan Johnson found himself in a similar position at the other end, but he made no mistake as he slotted the ball past Steggles and in off the far post to seal a dramatic victory.

For the watching spectators this match certainly wasn't any kind of spectacle, but the Blues faithful went home very happy with the points in the bag.
