Blues went out of the Integro Cup at the first hurdle with a 2-1 defeat at Kidsgrove Athletic.

Neil Baker made a couple of changes to his starting line-up with Marc Grocott and Dan Trickett-Smith rested and James Curley and Boris Melingui coming in to the starting eleven.

Baker's options were limited with Dan Shelley, Sam Grimshaw, Kyle Balke and Jordan Johnson all still out injured.

Blues started well and took the lead on 29 minutes when Niall Maguire scored with a fine low strike past Grove keeper Dave Parton.

Town were unlucky not to double their lead when Rob Stevebson saw an effort crash back off the crossbar.

The home side levelled early in the second half when Anthony Malbon flicked the ball into the box and Aaron Johns pounced to slot the ball home low past Ben Chapman.

Both sides had chances to win it, but with the game heading towards a penalty shoot-out, Malbon scored his customary goal against the Blues in added time with a low shot that took a slight deflection and squirmed under Chapman into the net,
