Blues striker Jimmy McCarthy has headed for the Harrison Park exit and joined EvoStik Division One North side AFC Fylde.

AFC Fylde's website reports the move as follows:

"AFC Fylde have signed highly rated striker James McCarthy from Evo Stik South side Leek Town for a nominal fee on an 18 month contract.

The 26 year old forward joins the Coasters to boost their attacking options and the club has beaten off strong competition from clubs higher up the pyramid to land the player to clinch his signature.

So far this season McCarthy has bagged 14 goals in all competitions after signing for Staffordshire based club following a spell under Challinor last season at Colwyn Bay.

McCarthy revealed he turned down other offers to join the Coasters with Airbus UK and Blue Square North sides Hinckley and Hyde Utd both chasing him.

“I had a few offers to consider but when Dave came in for me and we agreed terms I was delighted to join a club who are ambitious and wanting to climb the pyramid.

I worked with Dave and Colin at Colwyn Bay and really enjoyed my time there so to link up with them again is great for me. I had a great time helping them win promotion last season and I want to do it again with Fylde.

I’m sad to leave Leek Town as I was really enjoying my football there but I see this move as a big challenge and I can’t wait to get going. ”

AFC Fylde Boss Dave Challinor is delighted to land on of his targets and know’s all about the player and what he can bring to the side. “

Jimmy was someone we had targeted when we came into the club but with the quality we had around at the time we didn’t need to add another pacy forward to the side.

That changed when we lost Richie and Keigan and we needed to bring in replacements quickly. He was a fundamental player in our promoting winning side creating and scoring vital some goals for us last season and he can do the same here. He will add quality to our attacking options.”

McCarthy started his career as a youngster at Alsager Town and quickly moved to Warrington Town soon after before a spell with N Power League Two Side Crewe Alexandra.

McCarthy has since enjoyed spells with Blue Square Premier side Altrincham, started last season with Evo Stik North Champions Chester and finished last season gaining promotion with Colwyn Bay.

He was a popular figure at Bay and indeed Leek this season and the Coasters have done well to capture the pacy frontman to boost the club's promotion ambitions.

Fylde hope to have his paperwork completed in time for him to make his debut at Cammell Laird tomorrow."
