Blues lost their third successive away match in 2018 by a 3-2 scoreline when they went down at Frickley Athletic.

Neil Baker named the same starting eleven that beat Lincoln United with new signings Sam Hall and Nathan Whitehead both on the bench.

Town started well and took the game to their opponents for the first 20 minutes, the closest they came was a break down the left from Grimshaw who saw his low shot saved.

The home side were reduced to 10 men after 22 minutes when Danny Frost rashly lunged in on Scott Lycett having already been booked in the 5th minute.

The referee had no option other than to brandish the red card, but this seemed to galvanise Frickley who immediately went on the offensive.

Within four minutes they were ahead when after Blues cleared a free-kick, the ball was fired low back into the box and arrived at the feet of Jameel Ible who beat Ben Chapman from close range.

Town carved out a great chance a minute before the break, but Lycett and Jordan Johnson both went for the same ball, meaning the latter's shot ended up being tamely struck into the keepers arms.

Baker made two substitutions at half-time to change his formation with Tim Grice and Sam Hall coming for Niall Maguire and Jordan Lemon.

However, within three minutes of the restart it was 2-0 as Frickley broke down the left and the ball was squared for Jacob Hazel who had the simple task of slotting home.

Grimshaw had a header well saved by the impressive Hugo Warhurst in the Frickley goal in the 58th minutes, before he was replaced by Dan Trickett-Smith on 65 minutes.

It was Trickett-Smith who unlocked the home defence on 75 minutes, with a lovely ball to Jordan Johnson, whose shot was half-blocked by Warhurst, but still had enough to make it over the line.

Trickett-Smith had a shot deflected just wide as Leek pushed forward for an equaliser, but they were caught on the break on 90 minutes when Tom Dugdale turned home the loose ball after Chapman parried away a long-range effort.

Immediately from the kick-off, Town broke down the left with Rob Stevenson and his low cross was tucked away by Grice from three yards out.

There were still four minutes of added time to go but Blues were unable to create a clear-cut opportunity to take something from the game.
