PITCH PROBLEMS CONTINUE

Blues lost more ground on their promotion rivals when their home game against Gresley on Saturday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

It was the only game in 33 Evo-Stik League fixtures to be called off at the weekend emphasising the need for the Harrison Park surface to be replaced.

Bad weather continues to disrupt Blues’ promotion bid as postponed games have seen Lee Casswell’s side slip to 6th place. The final straw came last weekend when the already saturated surface deteriorated rapidly during the Doodson Cup game against Warrington, before turning into a quagmire.

Despite all the hard work by Blues’ ground staff during February, the pitch was unable to sustain further games but Chris Hermiston and his staff will be looking to get the surface playable for the home game against Brigg next Saturday.

Blues’ pitch problems have also led to the UEFA Under-17 European Championship Elite Round Group 6 matches between Romania and Slovenia on 21 March and Slovenia –v- Norway on 26 March, to be cancelled.

Both fixtures have been transferred to St Georges Park Burton.

Blues’ officials are now hoping to secure grant funding from the Football Stadia Improvement Trust to replace the Harrison Park surface after sending in a detailed application just over a week ago.

The project, costing in the region of £100,000, is expected to take in excess of eight weeks to complete during the close season.
