A terrific performance from Blues saw them demolish league leaders Sutton Coldfield Town 6-1 at Harrison Park.

The Royals had only lost two games all season but had no answer to a clinical display of finishing from Lee Casswell’s side.

After a cagey opening Matt Bell went close in the in the 15th minute with a deflected effortthat Lee Evans saved at full stretch.

Just four minutes Leek went ahead when Tim Grice (pictured) collected a ball into the box from Paul Donnelly, turned and fired home from 12 yards out.

Bell went close again with a curling 25 yard effort which was saved by Evans but Grice was soon on the score sheet again.

Dan Shelley burst through the middle but his shot was blocked by the legs of the onrushing Evans, however the ball broke kindly for Grice who steered the ball into the empty net.

Three minutes later Blues scored again. Liam Shotton picked up the ball on the corner of the area and was shepherded out wide by the defender. However Shotton persisted and eventually beat his man and made inroads into the box before firing a unstoppable shot high into the net from a tight angle.

To their credit the shell-shocked Royals got a toe-hold back in the game when Tom Turton swept home a ball from the left in the 32nd minute but Leek were good value for a two goal lead at the break.

As expected Sutton came out with renewed purpose after the break and Ross Etheridge was forced into a good low save in the 59th minute but that was the last threat the Royals posed as Leek struck with two goals in two minutes.

Liam Shotton thundered a shot against the bar and the rebound landed at the feet of Dan Shelley who struck a beautiful shot with the outside of his foot into the top corner of the net from 18 yards.

Virtually straight from the restart Grice picked up the ball on the edge of the box and fired hard and low past Evans into the bottom corner to complete his hat-trick.

Evans beat out a couple of more efforts as Blues threatened to run riot but he could do nothing about Bell bundling the ball home from close range in the 90th minute to complete the rout.
