All the goals came in the opening half with skipper Matt Haddrell weighing in with another brace. He now has 24 strikes to his name whilst Tim Grice
netted his 12th of the season to ensure the points in an otherwise good team performance.
Blues’ boss Lee Casswell
was forced to make one change to the starting line-up with Glyn Mellor replacing Jack Lane who was unavailable due to injury.
Brigg applied some early pressure but Leek were soon into their stride and in the 6th minute Tim Sanders slotted a superb ball into the path of Tim Grice
but he was unbalanced and the attempted shot just tricked into the keeper’s arms.
However, just 4 minutes later Blues swept into the lead when Grice robbed a defender and then made ground before crossing for Haddrell to plant a firm header into the back of the net.
Two minutes later Haddrell played a fine ball in for Ben Nixon but his run was halted inside the box.
Leek came close to extending their lead in the 13th minute when Haddrell headed down for Adam Roberts whose shot was cleared off the line.
A minute later Grice capitalised on some poor Brigg defending when he latched onto a mis-kick but then blasted wide from 12 yards out.
Brigg ventured forward in the 17th minute when a free kick by Jason Field was worked back to the edge of the box where Sam Mulready drove way over the crossbar.
Blues responded a minute later when Nixon hoisted a free kick to the far post where George Ray got up highest only to steer his header into the side netting.
On the half hour mark Leek came close again and when Haddrell headed on Glyn Mellor’s long throw Brigg failed to clear leaving Christian Millar to volley a shot straight at the keeper.
Three minutes later though Blues doubled the score-line when Nixon split the Brigg defence with a lovely ball wide to Roberts who crossed into the box for Grice to blast high into the back of the net.
Millar failed with another volley in the 34th minute but 3 minutes later he produced a fine through ball for Grice who snatched at his shot and the ball flew straight at the keeper.
A minute later Haddrell demonstrated his ball juggling skills before playing a neat pass in for Roberts who shot over from just inside the box.
Leek stretched their lead 3 minutes from the break when Haddrell headed on for Roberts who picked out Grice and he pulled the ball back to the unmarked Haddrell who drilled the ball home in fine style.
In the opening minute of the second half Ashley Woolliscroft saw his bullet header from a Haddrell cross just skim the crossbar.
Grice tried his luck from distance in the 52nd minute but he failed to trouble the keeper who played the ball out to Darren Mansaram who copied Grice but blasted wide from 35 yards out.
In the 67th minute Grice did well to win a corner but when Sanders drove it in George Rat steered his header narrowly wide of the target.
The visitors won a free kick in the 68th minute and three corners followed in quick succession before Gregg Archer screwed a shot well wide of the upright.
Leek came close to adding a fourth goal in the 76th minute when Dan Cope spread the ball wide for Roberts who crossed deep into the box where Anthony Danylyk got in a header that was blocked and his follow-up header crashed back off the crossbar.
In the 83rd minute a good ball forward by Matt Bell
found Cope on the edge of the box and he turned a defender before finding the crossbar with his shot.
In the dying minutes of the game Roberts drove a shot wide and Cope headed straight at the keeper as Leek claimed the points with a good team performance.
