There was action at both ends in the opening minutes with Rob Stevenson’s cross failing to trouble the home keeper whilst Danny Smith did well to rob Neville Thompson inside the box.
But Leek found themselves a goal down in the 12th minute when Danny Roberts had to go down to pull off a superb save but could only parry the ball into the path of the unmarked Jack Harrison who had the simplest of tasks to turn the ball home from close range.
Chances were then few and far between until the 36th minute when Stevenson ran on to a lovely ball forward but then lifted a weak shot straight into the keeper’s arms with the goal at his mercy.
Four minutes later, Blues levelled the scores when Stevenson held off a defender to cross low into the 6-yard box where George Melling forced the ball home.
On the stroke of half time Blues almost went in front after Tim Sanders fired in a corner and Melling helped it on for Haddrell but his shot was cleared from 2-yards out.
The home keeper pulled off a good save to deny Stevenson in the 47th minute and then Haddrell headed into the side netting after getting on the end of Matt Bell
’s deep cross.
In the 61st minute former Leek striker Leon Ashman looked yards offside when he broke forward but the flag stayed down and Danny Smith forced him wide with the resulting shot flying well wide of the far post.
On 75 minutes a cross from the right evaded everybody in the Castle box to find Haddrell at the far post but he fluffed his shot straight at the keeper.
Roberts was forced to push an Andy Nicholls shot wide following a mistake by Sam Hall
whilst at the other end Haddrell spread the ball wide for Stevenson who played it forward to Grice and he fired an angled shot across the keeper and inches wide of the far post.
A rare mistake by Sanders in the 84th minute could have proved costly but Roberts came to the rescue with a smart save before turning another effort wide from Nicholls 3 minutes later.
Leek finished the game on top but had to settle for a hard-earned draw.
