BLUES POWER PAST DYNAMO
Town recorded their first league win of the season with a comfortable 3-0 victory at Loughborough Dynamo.
Manager Neil Baker was absent at a wedding, but his starting line-up saw Rob Stevenson and Joe Kearns replacing Niall Maguire and Alex Morris. James Curley took the captain's armband in place of the suspended Darren Chadwick.
Blues had an early chance in the 11th minute when Jordan Johnson broke through but he was denied by a good save from Charlie Taylor in the Dynamo goal.
There were few openings after that at either end until the first goal on 28 minutes. A poor defensive header was seized on by Johnson who slotted past Taylor.
Dynamo's Luke Smithson was causing Blues some trouble down the left wing, but Ben Chapman remained relatively untroubled in the Blues goal.
Johnson nearly got his second early in the second half, however his 25-yard free kick was brilliantly turned on to the post by Taylor.
On the hour Johnson found himself through again but from the left hand angle he fired across goal and beyond the far post.
Rob Stevenson was next to be denied by Taylor in the 68th minute as he made a great run down the right and saw his low shot pushed away for a corner.
Dan Shelley took the corner which Curley headed home from close range to make it 2-0.
Stevenson then had a deflected shot tipped over by Taylor, Kyle Blake then saw his header go just over the bar before substitute Chris Budrys sealed the win five minutes from time.
A huge clearance from Ben Chapman was allowed to bounce and he rose highest to nod the ball over the oncoming keeper and into the back of the net.
Chapman made his first serious save in the closing moments getting down well to stop a low shot.
Not a vintage performance, but Blues took their chances and looked solid at the back with a third consecutive clean sheet.
