CHAPMAN SPOT ON TO EXTEND WINNING RUN

Blues chalked up a third straight league win for the first time this season with a hard-fought victory by a single goal over Loughborough Dynamo.

Dynamo under the management of former Blues boss Peter Ward, were a well-organised, physical unit and were a tough nut to crack.

Neil Baker named an unchanged starting eleven but Darren Chadwick did return from injury to take a seat on the bench.

Loughborough started well, but it was Leek who fashioned the first real chance, former Blues keeper Jame Martin making a good block with his legs to deny Jordan Johnson.

Five minutes Rob Stevenson got down to the by-line but his cross was difficult for Niall Green who running onto the ball, skewed his volley wide.

In the 34th minute Stevenson broke through but was thwarted by Martin, the ball broke to Johnson who squared for Dan Trickett-Smith, but with only a defender back, he scooped the ball over the bar.

Blues worked up a head of steam leading up half-time and Marc Grocott saw his shot blocked by a defender before poking the rebound just wide.

A minute later Stevenson broke clear, Martin came out to clear and missed his kick but with the ball heading away from goal, the Leek man could only find the side netting from the angle with only a defender on the line to beat.

Blues eventually took the lead in the 55th minute. A great move involving Dan Trickett-Smith, Stevenson and Johnson saw Trickett-Smith's shot blocked, the ball fall to Johnson who slotted it home through a sea of legs into the bottom corner.

Just five minutes later, Dynamo were awarded a penalty after a cross from the right struck Scott Lycett's arm.

Karl Demidh stepped up to take it but his low effort was too close to Chapman, who dived to his left to make a good save.

Blues went close twice more when Johnson and sub Liam Davies both had efforts well-saved by Martin.

With four added minutes up, Loughborough broke on the left and a ball was lofted across goal, but Demidh's miserable afternoon was compounded as he failed to connect from a yard out and Blues heaved a sigh of relief as the final whistle blew immediately afterwards.
