GOALDEN GRICE TAKES IT TO THE FINAL DAY
Two goals from Tim Grice helped Leek win 3-1 at Spalding United and ensured the race for the play-offs goes to the final day.
Grice's brace also made him the club's all-time record goal scorer as he took his career tally to 153 goals.
Spalding had not won a home game in 2018 but got off to a good start when Ben Davison glanced the ball past Danny Roberts from a long throw after 18 minutes.
Dan Trickett-Smith then came close with a volley from just inside the box that went just wide, before Michael Duggan made a fine save to keep out Scott Lycett's header following a corner on the half-hour mark.
Blues kept pushing for an equaliser and Sam Hall saw his effort deflected just wide and Darren Chadwick put a free header over the bar.
Crucially the goal finally came a minute before half-time when Rob Stevenson set up Grice to score with a simple finish.
It took Grice only four minutes of the second half to come up with his record-breaking 153rd goal and it was a peach as he produced a great finish to chip perfectly over Duggan from the edge of the box.
Luke White wasn't far off producing an equaliser for the Tulips but his long-range curling effort was just over.
Trickett-Smith saw a 30-yard volley well-held by Duggan, but deep in added time the keeper mis-controlled the ball and it bounced off him to Trickett-Smith who finished to make it 3-1.
There was further delight for Leek with the news that none of their rivals for the remaining two play-off spots had managed a win, meaning that although not in their hands Blues will go into next Saturday's game at home to Stocksbridge still with a chance of claiming a play-off place.
